Dr Shurman

Dr. Brett Shurman specializes in providing personal, comprehensive, and professional care to his patients.  With board-certifications in adult psychiatry and addiction medicine, Dr. Shurman treats a broad range of psychiatric disorders with psychopharmacology and psychotherapy.  Dr. Shurman also treats addiction and co-occuring disorders (also known as dual-diagnosis).    Well-established in Los Angeles (in Brentwood), Dr. Shurman supports the mental and physical well-being of his patients by working closely with a wide network of healthcare and mental health professionals.

Dr. Shurman has been practicing psychiatry in the Los Angeles area for the past 16 years.    He completed his residency at the Neuropsychiatric Institute at UCLA ,  his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania  School of Medicine, and his B.A. from Yale graduating Magna Cum Laude with Honors.   He also completed a fellowship in Psychopharmacology from UCLA.   During his fellowship years, he received the NARSA Young Investigator Award and the NIMH-NRSA Post-Doctoral award.  Dr.  Shurman received his Board Certification in Psychiatry in 2000 and his Board Certification in Addiction Medicine in 2011.

In 2024 and 2025, Dr. Shurman became trained in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, becoming a certified TMS tech, became a member of the Clinical Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Society and has been a practicing TMS provider. He has taken part in the Duke Visiting Fellowship in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Course, attended the International Brain Stimulation Conference in Japan, and attended the Clinical TMS Conference in San Diego, where he became certified by the Pain Academy of the Clinical TMS Society.
